Here are thoughts on what to do with various comic book properties.
Captain America: The first third of the movie is shot in a style that should remind you of Saving Private Ryan, right up to Bucky’s death and Cap frozen in an iceberg. The second two thirds are him getting used to our century and fighting the Red Skull who is in charge of a small army of men who are essentially two parts Blackwater and one part Hydra.
Wonder Woman: Again, the first third is about Wonder Woman’s mom fighting in WWII alongside Steven Rogers. She’s punching U-boats in a secret port in northern Africa because they are a thread to her island. We see her betrayed by men and get context concerning why she doesn’t want her daughter leaving the island. The second third is the birth of Wonder Woman from clay and her winning the contest in which she gains the post as Ambassador to the World of Men. And the second third is her fighting a rogue Amazon in the U.S.
Fantastic Four: Where did I read that the FF film should be set in the 60’s? Someone said that and it rings so very true. It should be a retro look with Cold War hysteria and Dr. Doom building weapons for the Russians but not if Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben have anything to say about it.
Its clobberin’ time.
The first movie should be Doom, the second should be Galactus and the third should be the birth of Franklin and the discovery of the Negative Zone.
Power Man and Iron Fist: Hell yeah it is set in the 70’s New York City with a funky-ass soundtrack. Hell, Luke Cage has always been Dolemite + Shaft + Superman. Iron Fist is the golden boy incarnation of Bruce Lee. They fight martial artists from another world come to challenge Danny and street gangs armed with alien tech from crap that other super-heroes didn’t finish up, so it trickled down into the street where it can hurt The People.
