A sleepy Friday

I cannot seem to catch up on sleep.

Reading: The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner is solid YA fantasy fiction. The power of folk-lore and myth with a touch of thievery is a fun combination.

Wearing: Button down green shirt and black jeans, the last pair of jeans I own since my other pair got a split under the crotch. I’m thinking that I should only buy Levi’s, as they tend to last a good long while and don’t get those crotch splits that my pants have been getting lately.

Planning: Janaki’s back in town tomorrow, so I can hand over grumpy mutt resonsibility to her. I need to buy a futon and do some food shopping.

Exciting.

Writing: Fiction in my Write a Little Every Day file and story hour stuff based on the intermitten Saturday D&D game, Daggers & Deviltry.

And you?

  1. Reading: More Cthulhu fiction and some research on storms for a writing project.

Wearing: Cargo shorts & Changeling: the Lost t-shirt

Planning: Goodwill/Half Priced Books run to clean out the office as we continue packing for our move

Writing: One freelance assignment completed as of last night, two more to go, plus some mini-demos for GenCon

      • Re: not dead but sleeping

Honestly…I’m sort of playing catch-up. I had read one or two Lovecraft tales and then some Delta Green fiction a couple of years ago.

I picked up Trail of Cthulhu and really enjoyed it. So then I scooped up Frontier Cthulhu, High Seas Cthulhu and a couple of other collections and am working my way through them.

  4. Reading: I just finished Cory Doctorow’s Little Brother yesterday, and ZOMG! I loved it! That’s spurred me to reread (for the umpteenth time) Daniel Pinkwater’s Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy From Mars, one of the seminal books of my youth.

Wearing: Ah, the same old work clothes.

Planning: Wow. I actually have nothing planned for this weekend.

Writing: Just web stuff for work.

I am going to pick up Little Brother before too long. I suggested it to Rob, as a reference to his game, Misspent Youth. Glad to hear it was good.

I’ve never heard of Pinkwater. I will add that book to my goodreads collection.

  7. Hey, when does your lovely lady arrive? Are y’all free for some hangout time? There’s an entire Ithaca Festival happening!

Drop us a line through some venue if you/Janaki might want to meet up.

  10. Reading The Slaves’ War – The Civil War told by accounts from former slaves

Wearing Shorts & T. Oakland summers demand it.

Planning D&D4E this weekend. See if we can get through the Kobold section of KotS in 5-6 hours.

Writing An essay on fantasy. A bit for my planned 4E setting.

    • Slaves and Fantasy

I can’t wait to read your essay. I can’t stop saying this but I’m thrilled with your blog.

The Slaves’ War sounds really interesting. I have a book about slaves in New York, out from the library that looks nifty but I haven’t dug into it yet.

  13. Reading: Happy Cruelty Day by Bob Powers. One of my favorite funny books. I read it once but want to read it again.

    Wearing: Black t-shirt. Jeans. Sneakers.

Planning: Maybe going to Ithaca Festival tomorrow. Zazen and Dethklok on Sunday.

    Writing: Nothing!

  16. Reading: Still slogging through The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber, only because I have had no time for printed material lately. I might switch to audio. You need to check out The Classic Tales Podcast with B.J. Harrison. He does all the voices and accents and everything.

Planning: Up late tonight, finish sewing stuff, Josh (Jeff’s twin brother)’s wedding tomorrow, work work work, gaming on Monday with Jeff’s group (PtA of Song of Ice and Fire).

Wearing: Jeans, brown chiffony-blousy-top thing, beige sweater. I actually look good for once and no one’s around to see it.

  19. Reading: Agon, again.

Wearing: Avatar: The Last Airbender t-shirt, brown cargo shorts, no shoes.

Planning: Some landscaping work for the backyard, now that we have a new puppy (chihuahua / mini bulldog mix). Gonna get some mulch and bricks and a shovel and get all messy doing “graphic design” in the dirt.

Writing: A crusaderpunk Agon hack, with some 4e-inspired elements. Excited to kill demons for the corrupt church bureaucracy, since, at least on 3 days out of 5, it’s better than the demons are.

  23. Reading: Nothing at the moment. Sort of GURPS Mysteries.

    Wearing: Tshirt, black pants.

Planning: Sleep. Not going back to the ER, but following up with home doctor, I hope. Singing and listening to folks sing tomorrow. Well, later today. Taking it easy and not trying to dance just yet. Maybe risking more serious food. Being in good shape for Origins.

Writing: Quick blog update about state of health. Occasional email updates on same and on Contata, with lots of good music. I’m told I did just fine on my part of “Falling Free” at the Tom Smith benefit concert.
