Had a dream that it occurs to me is a recurring dream. In the dream I am out in the hills somewhere, forest all around. It is a little bit more barren than Ithaca hills tend to be but could be Ithaca during a drier spell.
Over-head a military plane circles and tries to land and I watch as it crashes, unable to do anything. I usually wake up when it crashes.
Reading: I put down The Alchemy of Stone in order to rip through the Mouse Guard RPG. MG is Luke’s best game yet and I am chomping at the bit to get it on the table. Alchemy of Stone is one of the most beautiful and haunting fantasy novels I have read in a long time. It says something that I want to loan it to my mom when I am done with it.
Planning
: Sorcerer sci-fi and wrasslin’ tonight with some D&D and then a Tom Waits kareoke farewell party tomorrow for Aaron K. Sunday will be a yoga session to catch up on the two I missed today and yesterday and intense room and house cleaning. I am long overdue to get my room in some kind of order.
Wearing
: A comfy shirt and freshly cleaned jeans.
Writing: I am making really nice progress on a short story that I was stalled out on for a long time.
And you?
Reading: Um nothing really.
Planning: Being on pager!
Wearing: Button up shirt. Jeans. Boots.
Writing: Working on a non-Final Girl game idea.

Odds look very good for a MG game next (not this upcoming) weekend with Bea, Elliot, Liam, and Seb.

Reading: Re-reading Lord of the Rings, glancing at the MG PDF, haven’t had time to really sit down with it yet. Also- the new Hellboy story arc looks like it’s going to bring stuff to a head.
Planning: Flying to Seattle for a funeral. Gar.
Wearing: Sweats + Polo
Writing: Bits here and there. Game programmer roomie got me thinking about trying to re-approach writing The Emperor’s Heart, but life needs to slow down for that.
Condolences and Hellboy
My condolences, man.
It is a shit time of year for that kind of thing.
Ooooh, new Hellboy arc?
Re: Condolences and Hellboy
This would be the second family member to kick it for the holidays.
Aside- Mignola looks like he’s getting towards bringing things to a head- he’s been tying together a lot of threads in BPRD, and some serious character growth has been going on.
For Hellboy, this first issue looks like it’s going to do the same for him and maybe point him back towards dealing with the physical world instead of the weird spirit world stuff they’ve had him in for the last few years.

Reading: Dragon Strike by E.E. Knight
Planning: Either Midnight or Changeling: the Lost for tomorrow night. Can’t decide…
Wearing: Cargos and a Promethean t-shirt
Writing: A new fiction project and a handful of reviews.

I hear when making decisions like this, it helps to talk to your players.
But the guys who said that could be wrong.
Re: The Kryos Maxim
They couldn’t decide either, so they bumped it back on me.

Been wondering about Alchemy of Stone, thanks.
Reading: I just finished Steven Brust’s Jhegaala, which I like better than his last one in the series. On the other hand, the explanation of what’s going on doesn’t stand up to much scrutiny, as I’m discovering by reading a delightful analysis. I’m slowly going through Prometheus, and I’ve decided that if I ever run a game of that, regardless of what they players know, the characters start out by knowing none of it. I read a couple of stories in Paper Cities, which was edited by the woman who wrote Alchemy of Stone, but is probably too slipstream for my taste. What to read next? Probably The New Policeman.
Planning: Job hunting. Victorian dance tomorrow, with. House filk at and ‘s place on Sunday.
Wearing: Short polo t-shirt from Intercon H (Heaven and Hell — I’m wearing the Heaven version), black pants, socks.
Writing: Hm. Should be more of Presque Vue — Finished first drafts for 2 out of 20 PCs — and perhaps my zine for Alarums and Excursions.

Reading: A back issue of High Adventure (pulp reprint mag) & the PDF of Mouse Guard, which I agree is brilliant.
Watching: Sapphire & Steel, thanks to Netflix. Only watched the first two episodes, but it’s really interesting. It’s like a moodier, more atmospheric Doctor Who.
Planning: A weekend of relaxation.
Wearing: Jeans, baggy green sweater, grey shirt, red Chucks.
Writing: Nothing, now that I’ve left my NaNoWriMo story alone for the past few weeks. If I knew what was good for me, I’d pick that back up again.

I’m reading various evolutionary psychology papers, together with Cugel’s Saga; I’m writing my psychology essay, plus a game about the opium wars; I’m planning Dead of Night next week, using some Afraid stuff; and I’m wearing stripey pyjama trousers and a jumper.
