Reading: I am making my way through Diaspora and still reading about the Khan.
I am tempted to just start making up star clusters.
Planning: I’m thinking of running a 5k this weekend and getting some schoolwork done. I have a few projects due in the coming weeks and they’re not difficult, I was thinking of getting a headstart on them, rather than the sleep deprivation model I generally work on.
Visit a friend of mine who just had a baby.
MoBu City on Friday night.
Wearing: Green button down and a pair of jeans. Also, my new belt.
Writing: I took a fantasy setting piece I wrote and just fished it out for stories. I labelled each story as a chapter and just wrote a blurb about what will happen in this chapter. When I’ve had a moment this week, I’ve picked a chapter and written for a bit. It is an oddly satisfying way to write. I’m wondering if it will come together.
And you?
Reading: Just finished re-reading Push after a couple of years.
Planning: Restful weekend, saving money, handling a couple of projects, artwork, silat training. Running Skype game of BW.
Wearing: Hoodie & scarf, jeans.
Writing: Some NPCs.
Burning Skype
How’d BW over skype go for ya?
I found skype gaming to be fun but for some reason the lack of non-verbal cues kinda tired me out.
Re: Burning Skype
I’ll be running it tomorrow.
Actually, I do find Skype gaming to be a bit tiring, and my theory is that it’s because you’re double-using your visualization center in the brain- you’re visualizing the person speaking (because, that’s what we do) and then you’re trying to visualize the fiction at the very same time.
Last go around I was playtesting Project Vanguard, and there was a further issue of trying to navigate unfamiliar playtest rules while doing that. I figure this way, I’m playing with rules that are a known quantity.
I’ll let you know how it goes.

Reading: Just finished Proven Guilty and I can’t find White Night anywhere. I need my Dresden fix!
Planning: To enjoy a nice weekend after a long week. Also planning the next session of my Conspiracy X campaign and some more stuff for Slayer: Vanguard.
Wearing: Beige trousers, a fleece, and my overcoat because I’m still not over being sick and it’s really cold in the office.
Writing: Nowhere near enough.
I’ll say what librarians always say… try your local library! (Even if they don’t have it, they can ILL it for a minimal fee, probably.)

Reading: Guh, bah, dar… nothing? How can I be reading nothing?
Planning: Thanksgiving on Sunday! 25 relatives in our tiny house! Aaaaaahhhhh!
Wearing: Jeans, for jeans day at work! I am so gratified by my corporation’s acceptance of who I really am! This is not a cult! Really!
Writing: Torture of writing the next 4e session. Gah, I wish I’d just made something up instead of tying myself to that beast.
>> Guh, bah, dar… nothing? How can I be reading nothing?
Easy! I don’t read for weeks at a time sometimes. I recently fell in love with my local library and their inter-library loan system and awesome state of the art emailing system (I get emails when reserved books are in, and when my returns are coming up! Wow!), so I’ve cranked up the Reading Truck back from 0 to 60.

Reading: How to Castrate a Bull by Dave Hitz. DoubleCross 3E by Clever Yano.
Planning: Farmer’s Market and Turkish Restaurant for lunch tomorrow. Otherwise, relaxing and playing “Demon’s Souls”. Watching Tokyo Zombie. Working core, tris and back on Sat/Sun.
Wearing: My reggae shorts from Planet Skills, Under-armor orange and grey hoodie, underneath my Engrish.com “Hurry Up the Cakes” shirt. Huge wool hiking socks and black crocs. I scream “I am a hipster who works in IT, who can fall anywhere and take a comfortable nap”
Writing: The Last Chapter of Tenra Bansho Zero, Inshallah.
DoubleCross 3E
Have you read the “Queen of Blue” replay book for 2nd edition? The out-of-character dialogue is really funny, while the in-character scenes can be really touching and tragic (in an anime way). Good stuff.
Yeah, Queen of Blue is hands down THE most epic replay for Doublecross. Jipang is awesome but not as touching (great concept though, using Doublecross to play in an exXxtreme Sengoku period game). The Alive and Origin series is pretty good, too. Genesis for DX3… not quite as pulling IMO.

Reading: Alternating between The Neverending Story and a bunch of crafting books about working with polymer clay.
Planning: Surviving the weekend, mostly. This cold is sapping my ability to get much of anything done. Maybe an hour of Ghost/Echo via Skype tonight, some Christmas gift planning tomorrow.
Wearing: Outdoor/office casual.
Creating: Sick or no, I’m making an effort to draw daily. Last night I sketched a packet of Day-Quil caplets 😛 I’m also playing with watercolor crayons, but I think I’m going to need some formal instruction before I can make them do what I want to.

Beast
The beast in question is 4th edition D&D. The amount of prep I’ve had to do so far, and the amount of reading beforehand, has been more than a little ridiculous. Partly this is because I am running it “for reals” – i.e. no fudging monster hit points for drama’s sake.
Also, I run the campaign as a West Marches style where I’m the rent-a-GM, so I have ~ 20 players and cart my game from table to table.
4e isn’t bad, it’s just a lot of work, and it would be a lot easier (I think) if I had just 4-5 players, a fairly linear plot construct, and a full-time games room that I could leave set up.
