Welcome to Sector Hades Zeta

Part 2 of 4, The Polymele Frontier

Cartography by Nikita Zuev. Thank you, Nikita!

The frontier is isolated, with travelers making their way via Wisal system through either Grima (See also, Hild Station) or Olleta (See also, Melite) as the comet clouds in Abida discourage most ships from using it as a system to plot a course through.

Alcestis [Thorhild System]

Cradle of the 8 Wonders

Atmo:  Invasive
Temp:  Warm
Biosphere:  Miscible
Population: 100K+
TL:  4+

About: The 8 flying cities of Alcestis are said to be the greatest wonders in the entire sector, flying above the dangerous atmosphere, allowing the cities’ air filtration to do its work.

The cities are currently embroiled in a brutal war with shifting allegiances among the merchant princes who truly rule the planet from behind the thin democratic facade the cities put up.

Ipuza [Wisal System]

The Mines

Atmo: Corrosive
Temp: Temperate
Biosphere: Immiscible
Population: 100K+
TL: 4

About: Governed by a conglomerate of shipyards, volatile and volcanic Ipuza is a treasure trove of rare minerals needed to make and deliver upkeep to spike drive capable spaceships. The entire sector watches the mines carefully, knowing that the every planetary government with a navy keeps close tabs on Ipuza.

The mining unions were brutally put down in the past decades and the newly emerging Mining Guild is causing the shipyard corporations serious concern.

Mudassar [Thorhild System]

The Shipyard, the Artisan’s Planet

Atmo: Inert
Temp: Cold
Biosphere: Miscible
Population: 100K+
TL: 1

About: Mudsassar is still recovering from a costly war against nearly every other planet in the sector a century ago, during which, the fleet of capital exodus ships it was building in its pretech shipyards were destroyed. The Mudassim, inspired by an arcane blend of Abrahamic terran religions, had plans to leave the Sector en masse and take many important resources with them.

They were bombarded into a stone age and have just rebuilt enough to be considered at a medieval tech level. The artisans’ who can operate the shipyard are said to still be alive, training their apprentices with chalk, slate and abacuses.

Roa [Wisal System]

Icarus

Atmo: Inert
Temp: Temperate
Biosphere: None
Population: 100K+
TL: 0

About: Roa was once a proud world with a vicious navy and is now a cautionary tale. In a fit of hubris, they tried to take over the Exchange, moving their ships into orbit around Melite, bombarding the city when the consulars refused to give the Ro admiralty the passcodes to their banking computers.

The consulars’ revenge was swift and brutal. Now the world has no technology to speak of with oxygen engines under Roa’s oceans that are funded by Melite. It is unclear if the planet is kept alive because the Meliteen Consulars find genocide distasteful or because the planet is more valuable as a pool of indentured servants, working for the Melite Exchange to pay off the planets’ debt.

SWN Galaxy Breaker

Sobha [Polymele System]

Atlantis, The Miracle Planet

Atmo: Invasive
Temp: Varied Cold
Biosphere: None
Population: 100K+
TL: 5

About: Sobha has 3 cities that float atop its ocean and use their considerable technology to survive beneath the surface. Sobhim have become water-breathing mammals and live beneath the great ocean that covers the planet. The ocean-water is dangerous to humans, making them hallucinate and eventually perish if they are in contact with it for too long without expensive medical help.

Their unique biologies allow the Sobhim to offer their technology on their own terms. Making war against them has proven futile. When the revered engineers from Sobha want to speak with off-worlders, they do so in giant tanks with powerful computer arrays and dazzling self-defense measures.
