Reading, Planning, Writing: an unsettled Friday

Reading: I’ve been jumping around, unsatisfied, unable to settle into anything. I’ll jump on Sully, as I have to conduct a book club meeting discussion on it.

Planning: The weekend has become full, very full. I’m hoping I can find time to do laundry and throw chicken into the slow cooker.

Writing: Writing notes and bits and bobs for an all-kobold 5E games. Wrote up kobold backgrounds last night, which was fun.

And you?

Reading, Planning and Writing: In which it gets cold.

Reading: After reading A Taste of Honey by Kai Ashante Wilson (review here) and then jumping around a bit on a few science fiction books on my kindle, I picked up Binti by Nnedi Okorafor and I’m enjoying it. I really love novellas. For some reason they are the perfect length for me, taking me between 2 and 4 sit-downs to finish.

Planning: Gaming! Burning Wheel, Sorcerer and finishing up faction turn prep for SWN.

Writing: I’ve got a structure for something I’ve wanted to write for a while and I’m laying out that outline now.

Reading, Planning and Writing: Finishing up Ancillary Series

Reading: Like it says on the tin, I’m finishing up the series. The second book was a bit of a tweener but the last book has been splendid. Overall, the series is a wonderful science fiction examination of privilege and sapience told through spaceships, alien diplomats and a space pistol.

What next? Sword and Soul? More modern military science fiction?

Planning: More SWN this Monday and I’llĀ get the last planet-guide blog posts on Sector Hades Zeta. I’ve really enjoyed the SWN sector prep, more on that later, I think.

Writing: Blog posts, trying to start a series about the Fiend Folio called the Fiendlands but I’m having trouble finding my grip on it.

And you?

Lovely Week: Reading, Planning, Writing

Reading: I’m still reading Ancillary Sword and I’m digging it. I’ve had a week and a bit off from work and realize how much I lean on my long commute for baked into the day reading time. Ancillary Sword does a few things that are a bit disorienting because of the head character’s ability to jump her POV into other places and see people who aren’t immediately around her. I like it but it is taking some getting used to.

And I’m reading Prismatic Wordspray by Clinton because it is like a getting a nice letter from an old friend once a week. I love the links and the thoughts about gaming and life. Check it out.

Planning: Gaming! I might have as many as 3 games in the next 4 days. I can’t wait.

Writing: I’m writing up notes on using a generation ship as a starting-off point for Stars Without Number and finishing up bits on Sector Hades Zeta, hoping to have those posts finished up soon.

And you?

Summer’s taking out its Autumn dress: Reading, Planning, Writing

Reading: Behind the Throne by K.B. Wagers is about an Indian space princess who ran away from home to become a gunrunner scoundrel and returns home to save her royal family. Sari’s and spaceships and pew pew pew! Actually, it is more court intrigue than pew pew pew but there’s definitely some bang bang POW bang!

I want to love it more than I do but I’m halfway through it in 2 days, which is a good sign. We’ll see.

Planning: I’ll get to play my Kobold ala Planarch Codex and get back to the Riverlands. Good times.

Writing: I just finished my Misspent Youth setting, pushing through that period where I hate it and hate everything ever written and hate writing. I liked what I wrote and can’t wait to share it with you once the kickstarter drops.
