The Single Best NIght of Gaming in Your Life

If someone had told me that my favorite game session would happen at a con I would have said they were nuts.

If someone had told me that my favorite game session would be P.T.A. I would have said that was quite possible.

If someone had told me that game session would be a P.T.A. session that was a British Masterpiece Theatre set in the Victorian era that addressed issues of class struggle and violence against women I would have scoffed.

But tonight it happened. and it happened due to a trick of fate.

Michael Miller accidentally put up an extra PTA session with my name on it. I’ll thank him for that tomorrow. I could have bailed on it but eff it, its PTA, right?

That game was a year ago? Seems like more time has went by. Hm.

Sweet Zombie Orcus that game was good. I linked that thread to another conversation and went back and re-read it. It is nice to have the thread as an artifact of what happened that night. Nice to have proof that a game can be that fucking great.

That one just ambushed me, out of the blue, didn’t see it coming. To further abuse my baseball metaphor for awesome gaming, other games have been solid triples and even the worst games lately are doubles but a bona fide home run…

I pass the real life Hare and Hound every day on my way to work and when I take the time to glance left and notice it I smile.

How about you? What is the best single night of gaming in your life?

The Holiday Geek…I mean Week

Today Rob and I sat around and played Battle Lore while Janaki and Zorro napped on the couch. We got through the first two scenarios and we’re hungry for more. More Battle, more Lore…

This evening we went to the Burning Wheel game, the last session of this chapter, wherein we captured a Southron Princess and my Bastard Wizard dropped a hurricane on her father’s ship before he could return to the southern kingdoms and gather an army. My storm was met by the Sultan’s own wizard and my storm and his Efreet did battle in the sky.

My storm won, the ship’s crew were boiled alive in the arcane ruckus.

Bob’s knight finally got our rival’s son to challenge him to a duel, a duel that will kick off the first session of our second chapter, some months from now.

After the game we basked in the afterglow and then launched into our next game, Exalted, that I will hopefully record on my new iRiver.

Last night Josh, Janaki and Rob all made BW characters, along with a smidge of setting creation, so that we could show Josh how BW worked. He had read the books and was curious. It was more of a half-game but it was fun times. We also ate this divine meal with lovely red wine and delicious deserts at Madeline’s who now have a GLUTEN FREE MENU! My stomach

The night before that we playtested Rob’s game in development, Misspent Youth: A Game of Juvenile Delinquency and Being Awesome. It is going to be damned nifty. My character, Stingray Jackson, was a 15 year old who drove around in his father’s antique gas guzzling Corvette. We were rebelling against the Daedalus Corporation, who controlled all solar power with an iron grip and let the poor folk outside of their domed communities suffer as gas runs out.

It is a week that is easy like a Sunday morning, filled with Battlestar Galactica discussions, walking Zorro in the winter sun, sleeping in and geeking out.
