Princess* Donut Cottonsocks – Grimalkin Enchanter
Dream of Remembrance aka Moraine – Elf Knight
Ebbi Mushrump – Mossling Huntertl;dr: The trio met in the Mermaid’s Arms in Dreg, ate some stew, set out to save their friend-in-common, Tamrin; met and charmed the leader of 13 thieves before stopping for the night at the Jaunty Horn Inn.
Tamrin’s Outlaw Friends
tl;dr: Tamrin’s Outlaw Friends arrived at the Jaunty Horn and got into a tussle with a trio of shape-shifting fairies who had been in the form of a Breggle Longhorn Knight and a pair of Thieves.

Below are houserules, classes, thoughts on campaign prep, NPC’s, random tables, etc. There is an image from the blog post to the left and a quote with a link to the post to the right. Some were made with OSE in mind and others were resources I wanted close at hand, even if they were made for other dungeon-y games.
The OSE stuff will be closer to the top.
If you play an axewife, let me know how it goes and may you bring honor to your Glade Hall.
The Grinvolt Axewife: Old School Essentials class (fighter variant) inspired by Trilemma Adventures
The arcane battery in the pommel is charged by casting spells into it. For every level of spell, the blades takes in one charge. The wielder can spend 1 charge or cast the stored spell.
Old-School Essentials Magic Item: Type 94 Brightsword
These three options are there, once each, over the course of the character’s life.
Very much inspired by Wildermyth.
Old School Essentials: Death Houserules
The players are sent into the Underdeeps to stop these religious terrorist cells…
Into the Underdeeps
When you visit a new plane (demiplane, prime-world, whatever) and you trade blood, oaths, intimacy or comradery with someone you meet it opens up a new class.
Daydreaming about Old-School Essentials and Planescape
If there are no classes, it isn’t that there are no cool things that we associate with classes, it is that everyone suddenly can pray for powers, sneak through the shadows, jam arcane spells into their brains…
Classless OSE
The d6 Thief Skills houserules, the Mage and the Acolyte from Carcass Crawler #1 fascinate me. There is a game there, somewhere.
Old School Essentials: d6 Thief Skills, The Mage and the Acolyte
When in doubt, I come up with 3, d6 tables and if I don’t have an idea, I roll or pick or do a bit of both. Often, in the act of making up the tables, I get ideas.
Pirate D&D, roll 3d6 fo an encounter
Here are a few of the 2d6 tables I’ve made lately.
Encounter Tables
Inspired by their Tinkering move in their Burned Over ruleset and a question on an RPG slack I frequent, here’s a move for making magic items in D&D:
Making Magic Items, Inspired by Apocalypse World
I had an old blog post about Underground Cities and always liked the Gnome city built around a university, Svinifrilijihirim.

Below are AP posts about sessions of OSE, sometimes just a scene I thought was interesting. Why do I refer to some as Practice Sessions? I’m running 3 sessions at the library where I work and I set up some practice runs with friends before those games.
It seemed to be a good time to roll for a random encounter. Rolled a 12. A few details came to mind from the adventure’s text:
The Wyvern, the Hermit and the Deer Meat, a random encounter
First Practice Session
How bad could it have really been? I mean, on the bright side, there was a monkey in a waistcoat named Taco.
Practice Session 1.2: Flaming Skeletons and Healing Rest
Made a ruling on Wispo helping Blaine open the door, “Sure, with help you open doors on 3 in 6 rather than 2 in 6.” Little things vexed me – daggers doing d4 damage. Am I already daydreaming about the system I’d make if I were to take a sledgehammer to this and put together the pieces? Yes. That said, I’m surprised at how much I’m enjoying it.
Second Practice Session: Stellarium of the Vinteralf with Old School Essentials
This time we picked characters and talked about learning new games a bit as it was Coach’s first game. Yay! Janaki and Coach both narrowed down their character choices down to 2 or 3 favorites. I suggested this was good in case a character perished. We had the Bonesmith and Scamp. Coach described Scamp as “Frodo’s drunk, gay uncle” and I knew that Coach was going to do just fine at this gaming stuff.
POST SCRIPT – Second Practice Session
Sometimes you hit publish on a blog post about a game and realize you didn’t share your favorite parts. Here are a few from this weekend’s game that have been bouncing around in my head:
Practice Session 2.2: The Lantern of Wyv
They examined the lantern from top to bottom and teleported it to the ley line that will bring it right to the library. Great work!
Practice Session 2.3: A Shire Near a Dungeon with a Necromancy Problem
Lor the Necromancer surrendered and swore on the statue of the Saint of Liches that he’d leave the shire alone and never come back in this life or any unlife to come.
Third Practice Session: Grab a Dyson Logos Map and Jot Down some Notes
Once again we picked pre-made characters from the Rogues’ Gallery but this time as we got ready to start I straight-up panicked. I was two heart-beats from cancelling. Was it the pressure of gaming with my dad? Was it the scant notes I had to go on? What did I have to go on?
More to come…
