Shit.
Rob Donoghue talks about interesting gaming stuff.
Why am I oddly intrigued by a horror novel set in the Star Wars universe? Maybe because it makes me want to write a noir novel about a bounty hunter on Coruscant during the Imperial Years:
The dame told me that the Mandalorian was after her sister but she’d pay me in Imperial credits if I could find her first. Not having a jet pack, never stopped me before. I told the droids to get the ship set to rights, we were going to the capital of the galaxy right now.
Chasing after a liar’s little sister who is being hunted by the Fett might not seem like a good idea to you but it was fine with me; Kessel’s ugly this time of year anyway.

I feel like the “all conflict, all the time” is mostly a reaction to illusionist and zilchplay.
Aside from the exploring premise stuff that Rob’s talking about, you need to have time to simply show off who a character is, so people know what they’re testing or what’s actually changing. (You need to see a character be a coward first, if you want to make their courageous choices having meaning).
A lot of folks have talked about these kinds of lay back scenes before- Ron mentioned it in Sex & Sorcery in the Bob & Weave section and games like Bliss Stage incorporate them mechanically- with relationship scenes.

That’s why I felt Quantum Leap had one of the saddest endings of any series, ever.

So, someone’s tried to do noir Star Wars already, with a trenchcoat-wearing Jedi: http://www.amazon.com/Jedi-Twilight-Star-Wars-Coruscant/dp/0345477502/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233786259&sr=8-1
I read a bit of it in the store. That… was enough.
I bought that, based on how cheesy the premise was on the back cover. I haven’t dared read it yet.
