From the accounting books of the O.B.C.:
After that, 4 big things happened.
- Nolan’s dice game with the Dwarven Prince.
- Cormac’s gift of nog to the Red Caps.
- Nolan’s Duel of Wits with the Great Wolf.
- The Spiders go all Stringer Bell.
From the annals of the Hudson Valley Compact:
I watched Padraic really think about this and then, in the middle of every thing he says, “Fuck this. I walk up to the kid and touch him on the forehead, ‘Go kill your brothers.'” He rolls for his move, puppet strings and nails it.
“Then I hand him his gun back.”
The kid get’s in one of the armored school-buses and drives away.
The Five Points Empire is done.
“Fuck this. I walk up to the kid and touch him on the forehead, ‘Go kill your brothers.’” He rolls for his move, puppet strings and nails it.
“Then I hand him his gun back.”
Actually gave me a chill….damn awesome.
Thanks, it was a real game-stopper of a moment, especially since it was one of the last rolls of the night at nearly two in the morning.
So fun to read! You keep me interested in gaming during my extended slump.
Apocalypse World seems really cool, but (weirdly, considering I’m all over BW) it’s not compelling me as a play experience. I can’t put a finger on it, and I think I’d have to give it a try before I figure it out. Who knows? Maybe I’ll love it.
Glad you like the O.B.C. write-up.
It is interesting that AW isn’t as compelling to you. Is it the genre or the mechanics or something else?
I’m thinking it’s the setting. My actual life used to hold a lot of turmoil, and every play report I’ve seen shows a very serious game to be had. Maybe Burning Wheel’s fantasy setting helps me disassociate myself from the game, or possibly fatherhood’s removed my desire to play a dysfunctional caretaker role (which seems to be a common thread, from what I’ve read).
I’d still give it a chance! I love the presentation and the system seemed pretty awesome. I’m likely overthinking it.
Dysfunctional caretaker? Huh, I wouldn’t have picked up on that.
